For New Years Eve 2018, we headed to the mountains for some skiing and cozy relaxation. St. Regis is one of my favorite hotel brands — actually, it probably is my favorite. So we splurged and headed to the St. Regis Deer Valley! The hotel is located in the Deer Valley area of Park City, most widely known for the excellent ski slopes and ski school (Deer Valley is a ski-only resort area so don’t plan to get any snowboarding in here). The hotel is also very kid-friendly, so it’s definitely a great place for the whole family!
First things first — like all St. Regis hotels, you can expect an impeccable service experience from elegant rooms to the best hot chocolate bar ever (seriously, it is beyond delicious). You can also expect a matching price tag. We went during a holiday and it cost us a ton of SPG points. But, if you travel during shoulder seasons, you can get much more reasonable rates. Book early and avoid the holidays if you’re not looking to pay top dollar.
Arriving at the St. Regis Deer Valley is a fun experience, even before you get to your room. In order to get to the hotel, you’ll ride the FUNicular up to the hotel. The ascending cable car is such a cool introduction to the resort area, especially for kids. Once you get into the hotel to check in, grab a seat in front of the fireplace and kick your feet up if you’re waiting for room keys. In the afternoon, be sure to swing by the hot chocolate bar to take a sweet treat up to the room while you settle in.
Unpack and relax
The rooms at the St. Regis Deer Valley are perfection. We had a room with two queen beds, a fireplace, and spacious bathtub that I used nearly every day. Many of the rooms also have decks or balconies, which are great to take in the snow-capped mountain views. Whenever I stay in an expensive hotel, I think it’s important to spend time in the room and really appreciate the benefits of what I’m paying for. In this case, we spent a few nights in the room in front of the fireplace with room service (which is fantastic, by the way).
Grab a bite (or ten)
Anything you eat or drink at the St. Regis Deer Valley is going to be amazing. So come hungry and thirsty. For the restaurant, you’ll need to make reservations in advance, especially at dinner. We loved going for breakfast in the mornings — I loved the buffet! But my favorite was après ski on the Mountain Terrace. Seriously, this cannot be missed. You can swing in right off the slopes or go earlier on a no-ski day to avoid the crowds. There is a small buffet for food, or they’ll offer the full kids menu if you have little ones. Be sure to try the Bloody Mary too — so good!
Swing by the Kids Club
Jimmy had so much fun at the Kids Club that he literally cried for 30 minutes when it closed. They have games, movies, so many toys, and regular afternoon activities — something for everyone! It’s a drop-in (not drop-off) facility though so you can’t leave the kids there. You can relax and chat with the other parents though!
Bring the pup
You’re going to see so many dogs here at the St. Regis Deer Valley. The property is extremely dog-friendly. You can’t bring them into the restaurants, but there are some outdoor dining options so you can even bring them to meals. And depending on your pup, they can roll around and play in the snow or join you on a hike. I love traveling with my dog so it’s always so comforting when the hotel is accommodating for our furry baby!
